Tesla stops servicing grey market vehicles
Bangkok Post, 23 Sep '25
Tesla owners in Thailand have raised concerns on social media after Tesla Thailand's new management stopped servicing "grey market" vehicles.
The policy applies to minor maintenance issues, such as windshield wipers and air filters, as well as to insurance claims submitted through TAB (Tesla Approved Body Shop), which are now being rejected.
On 18th September 2025, the Facebook page iMoD, with over 1.9 million followers, posted a request for clarification from Tesla Thailand after service centres declined to provide assistance. The official message from Tesla Thailand stated:
"At present, Tesla in Thailand can no longer provide service or accept vehicles imported through unofficial channels (grey market vehicles). Should the policy change in the future, updates will be made through Tesla's official channels."
The post noted that Tesla Thailand had previously conducted a campaign specifically for grey market owners under the theme "Tesla Thailand's Pioneer Celebration Day: Exclusive for Tesla Grey Market Owners," indicating prior engagement with this community.
According to the post, grey market owners had consistently cooperated with Tesla Thailand but are now unable to access service under the new policy.
Facebook page Blink Drive, which covers automotive content in Thailand, reported a case in which a grey market Tesla owner received a call from Tesla cancelling a scheduled service appointment without explanation. The automatic booking in the system was also cancelled, raising questions regarding whether the new policy aligns with Tesla's global strategy.
Tesla Thailand has not issued a separate official statement regarding the matter. It remains unclear whether the policy will be revised to address concerns of all vehicle owners.
Grey market vehicles are imported by independent distributors rather than the brand's official dealerships. These vehicles are genuine Tesla models but are brought into the country through alternative channels.
