Toyota recalls Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX300

Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Indonesia announced a product recall for two premium cars in the SUV segment, namely the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600.
This product recall is carried out to inspect and reprogramme the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which controls the performance of the 10-speed automatic transmission on certain models.
According to the statement from the President Director of TAM, Henry Tanoto, Toyota had discovered a potential problem with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Therefore, checks and repairs must be carried out to prevent safety problems.
"We urge customers to check whether their car is included in the recall and come to an official Toyota or Lexus service centre to reprogramme the transmission ECU, free of charge," said Henry in his official statement.
In this product recall, the vehicles affected are the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 produced from July 2021 to January 2024 and Lexus LX600 produced from January 2022 to January 2024.
Toyota explained that the affected vehicles generally experienced problems with the clutch disc in the 10-speed transmission. When the transmission lever is shifted to the neutral position and the pressure is released from the clutch piston, the clutch disc does not immediately release from the plate, thus allowing some of the engine power to still be transmitted to the wheels.
It was explained that if this condition occurs when the vehicle is on a flat surface, especially when the driver does not use the parking brake, it can cause the car to accidentally creep forward at low speeds of up to around 6 km/h.
It is estimated that the ECU reprogramming work will take around 30 minutes without replacement of spare parts.
