Volkswagen confirms five new launches for 2026
Autocar India, 29 Jan '26
Volkswagen India is preparing a busy product rollout, with multiple new and updated models scheduled to arrive over the course of the year.
Alongside the previously reported Taigun and Virtus facelifts and the all-new Tayron R-Line, the brand is also set to introduce the standard Tayron and a second batch of the Golf GTI.
Tayron R-Line (launch in March)
Estimated price: around Rs. 5 million (US$ 54,370)
Engine: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol
The Tayron R-Line will mark Volkswagen's return to the premium three-row SUV segment, replacing the Tiguan Allspace that was discontinued in 2021. Local assembly of the seven-seat SUV has already begun at the company's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant.
Power will come from a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 207 PS and 320 Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic and all-wheel drive. The Tayron R-Line is expected to share much of its design and feature set with the Tiguan R-Line, while offering a longer body to accommodate a third row.
Tayron (launch in Q2)
Estimated price: Rs. 4.5 million to Rs. 4.8 million
Engine: 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
Volkswagen will follow up with the standard Tayron later in the year. While final specifications have yet to be confirmed, the model is expected to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 152 PS and 250 Nm, mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic. This configuration is likely to position it below the R-Line variant.
Taigun facelift (launch in Q2)
Estimated price: Rs 1.2 million to Rs. 1.9 million
Engines: 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
The Taigun facelift has been spotted testing on multiple occasions. Updates are expected to focus on revised exterior details, new alloy wheel designs and refreshed interior features, rather than major body changes. Engine options will carry over, although the 1.0-litre TSI may gain a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic in place of the current six-speed unit. A panoramic sunroof is also expected to be added.
Virtus facelift (launch in Q3)
Estimated price: Rs. 1.2 million to Rs. 1.8 million
Engines: 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
The Virtus facelift is expected to feature updated front and rear styling and new alloy wheels. Much of the interior layout and feature list is likely to mirror the updated Taigun, with the possible addition of advanced driver assistance systems. Powertrain options will remain unchanged, although the existing six-speed automatic for the 1.0-litre TSI could be replaced by an eight-speed torque-converter unit.
Golf GTI second batch (launch in Q4)
Estimated price: around Rs. 5.3 million
Engine: 2.0-litre turbo-petrol
Following strong demand for the first batch, Volkswagen is planning to bring a second lot of the Golf GTI to India. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 269 PS, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive.
