BYD Tang DM-i Hybrid homologation cleared, launch expected soon

In addition to the forthcoming Sealion 5, another model equipped with BYD's DM-i hybrid technology may soon be introduced in the Philippines.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has released homologation documents for the plug-in hybrid version of the BYD Tang, formally classifying the vehicle. This documentation is generally issued prior to a vehicle's official launch in the country.
While an official announcement from BYD Cars Philippines has not yet been made, the following information outlines key specifications of the Tang DM-i.
Vehicle specifications
According to the homologation documents, the Tang DM-i has the following dimensions:
- Overall length x width x height (mm): 4,870 x 1,950 x 1,720
- Wheelbase (mm): 2,820
- Ground clearance (mm): 225
It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a lithium-iron phosphate Blade Battery.
In international markets, the Tang DM-i is configured with front-wheel drive.
According to specifications from the domestic market, the internal combustion engine delivers:
- Maximum output: 154 PS
- Peak torque: 225 Nm
The permanent magnet synchronous motor provides:
- Maximum output: 268 PS
- Peak torque: 315 Nm
The vehicle has a top speed of up to 200 kilometres per hour. The battery and electric motor system support an electric-only driving range of up to 110 kilometres.
It is fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels with 255/50 tyres and disc brakes on both the front and rear axles.
Standard features (China-spec model)
The version of the Tang DM-i sold in China includes the following features:
- 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- Metal door sills
- Soft-touch dashboard
- Dual-compartment armrest console
There is currently no official confirmation as to whether ACMobility, the authorised distributor, will discontinue the fully electric BYD Tang EV once the DM-i version is introduced.
